First to Home: July 29th MLB News and Notes
July 29, 2017Yankees Devastate Rays: The Yankees scored once in the 8th and once in the 9th to tie the game at 5 and force extra innings on Thursday. Then in the 11th inning, Brett Gardner delivered the fatal blow with a walkoff homer. Alex Colome is proving unfit as the Rays closer as they continue to blow games.
Blue Jays Back?: The Blue Jays have struggled to gain any momentum all season after their disastrous April and May performance. However, they have been trying to determine whether they are in a position to make a run at the wildcard still. After a 4 game sweep over the A’s, culminated by Steve Pearce’s walkoff grand slam Thursday, they might still be contenders.
Cubs on Fire: The Cubs getting hot and the Brewers falling off seemed inevitable all season and the time has finally come. After taking two out of three from the White Sox, the Cubs are 11-2 since the break while the Brewers are 4-9. The Cubs now have a 1.5 game lead.
J.D. Martinez Proving Worth It: The D-Backs refused to stay complacent at the deadline despite their great success this season. The addition of J.D. Martinez has bolstered a lineup that was already solid. Martinez followed a multi home run game Wednesday with a grand slam Thursday in the D- Backs 4-0 win. Martinez is going to be a major key.
Nationals Bash Brewers: The Nationals bashed the Brewers in Thursday’s matinee behind an MLB record tying 5 Home Run Inning. Bryce Harper crushed two home runs in the win as he continues his MVP trajectory.
