Let’s Talk About Game 5…

Ok, so let me preface all of this. I am not a baseball writer. I used to play little league, some high school, but nothing else too serious. At one point in my life, I was the biggest baseball fan anyone could ever meet. However, I phased out of that and transitioned into something that I thought was more exciting; golf (please no comment for that very stupid statement).

Anyways, I wasn’t in the mood to watch another shitty football game Sunday night, so I decided to tune into the World Series instead. For those that don’t know, it was game 5 of the Astros and Dodgers, with aces Clayton Kershaw and Dallas Keuchel on the mound. I turned on the TV right at the beginning of the fourth inning, and I was not disappointed. Five minutes into the game, I realized that it was not going to be the pitchers duel that everybody expected. The score was 4-1 when Yuli Gurriel stepped up to the plate. Momentum was shifting in the favor of the Astros, stemming from a Carlos Correa double that scored George Springer. Gurriel took one swing of the bat, blasted it over the wall, and sent the crowd into a frenzy. It was probably the coolest thing I’ve seen in my life. The moment was just right, Gurriel stepped up, channeled all he had, and most certainly didn’t disappoint.

Of course the rush didn’t last, and Bellinger successfully silenced the crowd with a three run blast of his own. However, that made things even more special when Altuve popped one over the wall to tie the game himself. It was an unbelievable experience to witness live. Every time the Dodgers quieted the crowd, the Astros would do something to get back into the game that was even bigger than before. Throughout the game, both teams showed almost no signs of quitting. In the process, the Astros have already set the record for the most homers in a World Series at 22, and they still have at least one more game.

I didn’t follow the first four games of the series, but after game 5, you can bet your life savings that I’ll be tuning in for game 6. Both teams showed no quit from what I saw in game 5, but the Astros were able to get things done when it really mattered, with Bregman getting a walkoff single in the bottom of the 10th to win the game. The more I think about it, the more the Astros look like the team to beat this World Series. They are truly playing like there’s no tomorrow, and I’d be shocked if they didn’t get it done in the next two games. Well, I’m definitely gonna watch tonight, but I truly believe that Matt L’s prediction is gonna come true: Astros in 6, baby!
