Tyronn Lue Stepping Away from Cavs
March 20, 2018
Tyronn Lue has decided to step back from the Cleveland Cavaliers due to health concerns. Assistant Coach Larry Drew is set to take over the Cavaliers in his absence. Lue stated in a statement today that he has experienced chest pains along with other symptoms. He is needing to take a step back to help figure out what is wrong so that he can continue to coach with his health intact. The Cavaliers are fully supporting him and he will resume coaching the team should he return sometime soon.
Here is the official statement from Tyronn Lue via the Cavaliers website:
“After many conversations with our doctors and Koby and much thought given to what is best for the team and my health, I need to step back from coaching for the time being and focus on trying to establish a stronger and healthier foundation from which to coach for the rest of the season.
I have had chest pains and other troubling symptoms, compounded by a loss of sleep, throughout the year. Despite a battery of tests, there have been no conclusions as to what the exact issue is.
While I have tried to work through it, the last thing I want is for it to affect the team. I am going to use this time to focus on a prescribed routine and medication, which has previously been difficult to start in the midst of a season. My goal is to come out of it a stronger and healthier version of myself so I can continue to lead this team to the Championship we are all working towards.
I greatly appreciate Dan Gilbert, Koby Altman, our medical team and the organization’s support throughout.”
Now, I am sure coaching Lebron can be a hassle and sure could give you some health issues. Lebron essentially coaches the Cavaliers and for him to allow a coach to actually coach the team, it would take a lot out of someone. I would assume that some of what Ty Lue has said is true but I also feel he really needs to take a step back to get a break from Lebron and the struggling Cavaliers. He can’t seem to get the Cavs on track and is probably under tons of pressure from Koby Altman and Lebron to perform. I wish Ty Lue the best and hope he makes a great recovery and can return but I can definitely see why he needed to take some time away from the team.
