The 2018 CFB National Championship Preview
January 8, 2018Well, it is finally here. The College Football Championship game. This year we have two SEC teams; #3 Georgia against #4 Alabama. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this game, but nonetheless it should be a fantastic matchup of two SEC powerhouses.
The spread in Vegas is Alabama favored by 3.5. I am predicting a close game, definitely within two possessions. but not as close as Vegas believes it will be. The experience of Saban and the Tide will come into play for the matchup tonight. Georgia, on the other hand, has had its handful of big games this year, playing at Notre Dame, the SEC Championship, and last Monday against #2 Oklahoma. This year’s Crimson Tide team does not have the premiere wins that the Bulldogs have, but the coaching staff and returning players know all about the big time games.
Going off last week I am at a loss on who looked better. Alabama straight up dominated the best looking team in the country in Clemson in the Sugar Bowl. However, the way Georgia played in the second half was very convincing, coming back from the dead down by 17. If we see the first half UGA it could be ugly, but if that second half team comes expect a great game!
Keys to the Game
BAMA
- Defensive line plays and gets after the quarterback.
- Secondary has to play well and keep Jake Fromm in check.
- Limit the damage of Nick Chubb.
- Establish a run game early.
UGA
- Keep a balanced attack and keep Alabama’s defense on their heels.
- Offensive line has to dominate.
- Force Jalen Hurts to throw, do not allow the run game to gain any steam because that’s Bama’s key to winning. Take away that aspect of their offense and they are very beatable.
Some of Tailgate Sports’ Staff Predictions:
Erik : 27-21 UGA
Nick K: 35-31 BAMA
Domenic:17-14 UGA
Brett : 27-17 UGA
Ryan: 21-20 UGA
Mason: 27-14 BAMA
Paul C: 40-27 BAMA
Will: 24-17 BAMA
Bryce: 31-28 UGA
David: 38-34 UGA
Nick G: 31-24 UGA
Personally, I really wanted to pick Georgia, but I just do not see it happening tonight, especially if the defense of the Tide creates havoc like last week.
