Ryan Donato Shines in Debut

Ryan Donato made his NHL debut last night with the Boston Bruins after signing a two year entry- level deal with the team yesterday.  In his first game, he shined with a goal and two assists, an impressive feat for a guy playing college hockey only last weekend.   He seemed particularly NHL ready, flying around the puck the whole night.

Donato was drafted by the Bruins in the second round (56th overall) of the 2014 entry level draft.  This year at Harvard University he had 26 goals, 17 assists, and a +15 rating in 29 games played. Hockey fans across the country had the ability to watch Donato play on the big stage in the most recent Olympic Games where he scored five goals and registered an assist in five games. Albeit he cannot be expected to be huge presence on the ice this year, Donato’s skill and speed will be a huge plus for the injury- plagued Bruins.

The 21 year old will likely skate on the third line alongside Noel Acciari and his Olympic teammate Brian Gionta. Keep an eye out for this kid because the Bruins need him and if he performs well, he could crack a spot on the playoff roster.  It’s unfortunate his debut was ruined in an overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, but still a great showing for the 21 year old.
