Quarterback Frenzie Inside the NFL
March 21, 2018The market for QBs this season has been unreal this offseason. Most seasons there are one or two QB’s looking for a new home but this season it is totally different. There have been a total of 6 Starting QBs that have found a new home already and it is unbelievable. We are going to tackle all the QBs that have made a move.
Kirk Cousins
Kirk has not been able to get an extension with the Redskins and a departure from DC has been written on the wall for a long time. Kirk has paved the way for guys to really get paid signing a 3yr/$86M fully guaranteed contract. He will have some great targets in Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, and Kyle Rudolph along with running backs Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray. This team was no joke making it to the conference championship and Cousins is the one that could get them to the Super Bowl.
Sam Bradford
Number 1 of the Vikings trio of free agent QBs. Bradford just signed a 1yr/$20M contract with the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals are a good fit for Bradford as he is an extremely efficient QB. He will have Larry Fitzgerald who is arguably a top 10 receiver of all-time on his core of receivers along with RB David Johnson, who is a top 3 RB who missed all of last season due to injury. Bradford played just two games last year due to injury but the year before played a great year for Minnesota in 2016 throwing for 3,877 yards, 20 TD’s, and 5 INT with a passer rating of 99.3. When healthy, Bradford is a solid QB and will do well for Arizona.
Case Keenum
The second QB from the Vikings, who led Minnesota to the conference championship last season, is departing for the Rocky Mountains in Denver to play for the Broncos. Keenum is filling a much needed hole for the Broncos last season who started 3 different guys at QB last season. The team has great wideouts in Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders and running back CJ Anderson. They just needed a solid arm throwing to them and now they got it. Keenum will be a good fit as long as he plays just like he did in Minnesota.
Teddy Bridgewater
The final QB from Minnesota, who missed all of last season with an ACL tear in his knee, signed with the New York Jets. The Jets finally might have found their QB for the future in Bridgewater. Bridgewater was off to a great start to his career before taking an injury to his knee back in 2016. In his last full season in 2015 he was selected to the Pro Bowl, throwing for 3,231 yards, 14 TD’s, and 9 INTs with a passer rating of 88.7. He also is a mobile QB running for 192 yards and 3 TD’s. Bridgewater is ready to really get his career going and is eager to get out and play for a team. The Jets will make him the starter and he will make something happen for them.
AJ McCarron
McCarron has started 3 games but has shown signs of being able to be a great starter in the NFL. He spent 4 years playing under Nick Saban at Alabama and has studied under Andy Dalton for the past 4 seasons. He is now going to take on a starting role in Buffalo as the Bills signed him to a 2 year deal. I am excited to see what he can do. In three starts AJ had 854 yards, 6 TD’s, and 2 INTs with a 97.1 passer rating. He almost led the Bengals to their first playoff win in a long time until unfortunate events cost the team the game against the Steelers. He has good pieces with him in WR Kelvin Benjamin and RB LeSean McCoy. Those guys should help him get the offense going while they commit to a super build through the draft.
Alex Smith
Alex Smith was the first of the quarterbacks to find a new home. He was essentially forced out of Kansas City to make way for golden boy Patrick Mahomes II, who Andy Reid and the Chief’s Organization are in love with. The Chiefs were looking to find a trading partner for Smith and the Redskins jumped on that opportunity knowing that they would lose Kirk Cousins. Smith plays just like Cousins and is a great fit into the system they have in Washington. They added a strong wideout in Perry Richardson Jr. to go along with Jamison Crowder and Terrelle Pryor and pass catching back Chris Thompson. Smith was a top QB in the league last year throwing for 4042 yards, 26 TD’s, and 5 INTs with a 104.7 QBR, which led the league.
