New York Yankees vs Houston Astros ALCS Game 7 Recap
October 26, 2017Game 7 has concluded and the World Series is tonight and if you don’t know by now the Houston Astros will be representing the American League in the World Series against the Dodgers. I am devastated that my New York Yankees didn’t make it to the World Series, but they outright didn’t deserve to. Yes they played well and battled back winning elimination game after elimination game, but they failed to close out the most important series. In Game 7, with the season on the line, the Astros showed up and the Yankees simply did not.
Charlie Morton pitched a great game for Houston going 5 innings of 2 hit baseball striking out 5. He then handed the ball off to Game 4 starter, Lance McCullers, who fanned 6 through 4 innings allowing one hit to complete the series and clinch the pennant. The Astros only put up 4 runs but their offense was alive in this game with every batter tallying at least one hit finishing with 10 hits for the game. The first two runs came from Evan Gattis and Jose Altuve both via the solo homer, which had the Astros up 2-0. After this, Brian McCann hit and 2-run double to widen the lead to 4-0 through 5 and that would be the final score.
The Yankees did not show up. They tallied only 3 hits in the entire game and got struck out 11 times. That is piss pour hitting and is certainly not gonna win you any games, especially in October. Sabathia let up a homer to Gattis and got pulled in the 4th, which I felt was extremely early, and Kahnle, who has been a stud all year struggled when they needed him most allowing 3 earned over 1.1 IP. The Yanks were dominating the pitching but it didn’t show in game 7. Sabathia failed to tally a strikeout and the staff only struck out 4 Astros the entire game.
The Astros have worked hard to be where they are and good for them. The city of Houston is behind them and is ready to be there for them every step of the way as they take on the Dodgers. They will have a solid starting staff in Keuchel, Morton, and ALCS MVP Justin Verlander to lead the way for them. The Astros can win the World Series if their offense comes alive and their shaky bullpen has a solid series. They need a lot out of Will Harris and Ken Giles. The Dodgers are a tough squad and the cards are in the Astros hand. Will they fold or will they rise to the occasion?
