NBA Coast to Coast: Week 1 Rundown 10/17-10/21

October 24, 2017 Off By tailgatesports

What a first week in the NBA! A lot of shit happened and I can’t even find a spot to begin.  The first game of the regular season was Cavs vs Celtics, in what looks like the ECF matchup for this season. Five minutes into the game, Gordon Hayward goes up for an alley-oop and comes down hard and fucks his leg up.  The new Celtics star was in just his first 5 minutes with his new team, and just like that, his season is now over.  Gladly, he made a full recovery from a fractured tibia and dislocated ankle and if anyone saw it, it was a pretty gruesome injury.  The Cavs end up topping the Celtics barely, 102-99, in a great game to kick off the year.

The Warriors then took on the Rockets at Oracle, where Fake Klay Thompson is born (BigDawsTV), and they play in an absolute thriller going 122-121 to the Rockets.  The game was almost won by the Warriors on a shot that Kevin Durant hit at the buzzer but was called off after review leaving Golden State fans stunned in the opener.  The downside to the victory came with the loss of Chris Paul for up to 4 weeks due to a knee injury which is going to slow down the chemistry build up between Paul and Harden.

Here are the Scores from the Week.

TOP PERFORMER OF THE WEEK – F Giannis Antetokounmpo

This man went on an absolute tear and is really making Kobe Bryant proud in his chase for the MVP.  He has played out of his mind averaging 38.3 ppg over three games in his first week. The guy is a Greek god and should be treated as such.

To roundup some news throughout the week, Lonzo Ball struggled in his debut against the Clippers, matched up against Pat Bev with a line of 3 pts, 8 reb, and 4 ast, but came back strong with a dominant performance against the Suns getting 29 pts, 11 reb, and 9 ast.  The Warriors have notably struggled this first week going 1-2 losing to the Rockets and Grizzlies along with Steph and KD getting ejected in the Memphis game, not a good look for the defending champs.  Vucevic has had a great start to the season, scoring 41 against the Nets and 23 pts to lead the Magic to a win over the Cavs.  Both Hassan Whiteside and Deandre Jordan had 20+ rebound games in their first appearances this season.  Love seeing big men grab some big time heavy duty boards.  Lamarcus Aldridge had a solid week tallying 26.5 pts and 10 rpg over his first two games looking good for the big fella.  Lot of play going on but it’s still way too early to see who is really out in front.  See you next week for my week 2 rundown!
