Marshawn Lynch Coming Out of Retirement to Join the Raiders?
March 24, 2017Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch seems closer and closer every day to coming back into the NFL. However, it does not seem like he would be too interested in rejoining his old team, the Seattle Seahawks. After the loss in Super Bowl XLIX due to an extremely controversial play call on the 1-yard line, Marshawn Lynch has never felt too happy about the decision-making of the Seattle franchise. Beast Mode entered the retirement phase of his career, and has since starred on various talk shows and television programs as a celebrity guest. However, being a fairly healthy 30-year old, there still remains a desire to play. Now, an opportunity has arisen in Lynch’s hometown of Oakland, CA, and there appears to be an opening for a no. 1 running back on the Raiders roster.
The year was 1995. The Raiders decided to move from Los Angeles and the Coliseum back up to their original home in Oakland. A 9-year old Marshawn Lynch falls in love with the team and by the time he was in high school, he witnessed his silver and black squad go to the Super Bowl. It’s every kid’s dream to play for their hometown sports team, and given the high demand the Raiders currently have for a starting running back, Lynch has that glorious opportunity. With Latavius Murray not continuing his career with the Raiders, and instead signing with the Vikings, Marshawn Lynch is the perfect piece for the Raiders to complete their offense. Behind Derek Carr, who was one of the best quarterbacks last season, the Raiders have an absurd amount of potential to go far. With a solid defense and receivers such as Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree, the Raiders have one of the best air attacks in the NFL. On the ground, they arguably have a top 5 offensive line and a young, up-and-coming running back in Jalen Richard. However, Richard isn’t at the point of being a bruising no. 1 back. He has soft hands and is pretty good coming out of the backfield, but the Raiders need a big tank of a runner to complement the rest of the their offense. Once this final piece falls into place, one can only imagine that the winning spirit of Al Davis will return to the Raiders.
I’m reminded of a piece called “The Autumn Wind” when I think of a winning Raiders team. This piece of music was used as the Raiders’ theme song in the 1970’s and often accompanies highlight reels from the team’s glory days. I feel that if Beast Mode joined the Raiders then this piece would surely accompany future highlight reels of the Silver and Black. The Raiders of old would return and we would all constantly hear the phrase “Just win, baby” echo through the franchise. Marshawn Lynch was a Raider growing up. If he signs with the team, he will no longer be Beast Mode. He himself will be known as “The Autumn Wind.”
“The Autumn Wind is a pirate. Blustering in from sea,
with a rollicking song, he sweeps along swaggering boisterously…
The Autumn Wind is a Raider, pillaging just for fun.
He’ll knock you ‘round, and upside down,
And laugh when he’s conquered and won.”
