Mafia Makes History

Mafia Makes History

Bills Mafia has a unique stat line over the past 18 years. There’s been hundreds of tables broken, thousands of beers shotgunned, and millions of brain cells lost, but the most important stat is coming today, one playoff appearance.

The Buffalo Bills managed a 9-7 regular season, which was just enough for the team to sneak into their first playoff appearance since 1999.  Sneak is no exaggeration, the Bills were granted a miracle performance from the Cincinnati Bengals with a win against the Ravens in a last minute 49 yard dart of a pass from Andy Dalton to Tyler Boyd.  This clutch victory was enough to send the Bills into the postseason and it has been a nonstop party since.

Part of me is thinking congrats Bills you’ve upgraded from the participation medal for completing the season to a slightly more impressive level, and they’re celebrating like they won the Super Bowl.  I get it’s an accomplishment to break such a long dry streak from the playoffs but reign it in a little your season wasn’t too much to be proud of.  In fact, I’ve seen more impressive highlights of Bills fans breaking tables than Bills players actually making highlight plays this season.

Now it’s time to prove themselves and the Bills have a tough matchup in this first round against the Jacksonville Jaguars.  I fully expect Shady McCoy to put some defenders on skates like he normally does, but this won’t be enough for the Bills to pull out a win.  They will need a big performance from their quarterback Tyrod Taylor in the passing game, and this is a tough challenge considering the Jaguars defense has been lock down this season.  In fact, the Jaguars defense is leading the league in most sacks, most takeaways, and fewest points allowed, which hasn’t been done by one team since the Steelers in 1976.  Therefore, this scary defensive side of the ball is what is standing in the way between the Bills chances of a second round appearance, since Blake Bortles and the Jaguars offense has been much more unreliable than their defense this season.

All jokes aside, I’m happy for the Bills and hope they don’t get absolutely clapped in their first game against Jaguars, and if it all goes bad there’s always Instagram and Twitter to watch the mafia do what they do best.

*Pro tip if possible start investing in Natty Ice and folding tables stocks because come one o’clock today Bills Mafia will be in full send mode, which will be a scary, yet electric, sight to see.
