First to Home: MLB Rundown September 29th
October 1, 2017Cubs Clinch and Eliminate Cardinals: The Cubs won two games in a row in St. Louis to officially seal a playoff birth and eliminate the Cardinals from contention. The Cubs are beginning to show signs of the late game magic they displayed on their world series run last year. They have to be the favorite despite the Dodgers’ outstanding year.
Astros and Indians: The Astros and Indians continue to keep pace with each other in the race for American League home field advantage. Cleveland sits 1 game ahead after reaching 100 wins for the third time in franchise history.
Brewers Get Huge Win: The Brewers have wavered at times over the course of the last week but the reality is they have won the games they needed. Yesterday they clawed their way to a 4-3 win over the Reds to move within 1.5 games of the Rockies for the last NL Wild Card spot. Both teams face challenging opponents in the final weekend of the season as the Rockies host the Dodgers and the Brewers head to St. Louis. Big Weekend.
Stanton Eyes 60 Home Runs: Giancarlo Stanton cranked a pair of Home Runs yesterday to bring his season total to 59 home runs. He is looking to join elite company by becoming the 6th player in MLB history to hit 60 in a season. The Atlanta pitching probably won’t get in the way of him this weekend. My guess he will end up with 62.
Red Sox Fail to Clinch: The Red Sox failed to clinch once again yesterday, after getting thrashed 12-2 by the Astros. Rather than a lowkey situation the Red Sox find themselves playing high stakes games against a team (The Astros) that has something to play for.
