First to Home: MLB Rundown August 28th

August 29, 2017 Off By tailgatesports

The last Weekend of August did not disappoint, as several pivotal late August showdowns brought highlights for some clubs and incredible disappointment for others. So Here Goes Nothing:

Red Sox Get Swept: Just as it seemed the Red Sox were in the clear and on to October they have hit a rough patch to say the least. They have lost their last 4 games and have been outscored a startling 38-10 in those affairs. With the Yankees now only 2.5 games back, this is not the time for the Red Sox to fade.

Rangers Disappoint: After taking 3 of 4 from the Halos last week the Rangers might have had some momentum going. But after a sweep in which they showed the inability for timely hitting and ineffective bullpen (19th in Baseball) they find themselves again 3 back in the wild card race with a myriad of teams either ahead of them or nipping at their heels. Bad losses at this stage.

Diamondbacks a Real Threat: The Rockies and the D-Backs don’t get taken very seriously because for the last 6-7 years they have been completely overshadowed by the likes of the Dodgers and Giants. However, the addition of J.D. Martinez at the deadline has bolstered the D-Backs already regarded offense. They are scoring an impressive 5.4 runs per game at home. Look for them, and also the Rockies, to be dark horse October threats.

Emergence of Byron Buxton; Twins Rolling: The #2 pick in the 2012 draft is officially making his way to the stardom many projected for him when he broke into the league in 2015. Buxton is absolutely ripping the ball and carrying the Minnesota Twins in the process; With the month not even over Buxton has already tallied 14 more hits in August than in any other month this season. Twins up 1.5 for the second Wild Card spot.

Brewers Take 2 of 3 From Dodgers: Big Series with all close games. The Brewers know the time is now that they must step up as they trail in the division by 2 games and the Rockies by 3.5 for the second Wild Card. While their expectations weren’t incredibly high this season, they have bought into this season and anything but the playoffs is a failure.
