First to Home: June 27th MLB News and Notes

June 27, 2017 Off By tailgatesports

Being that it’s Monday night, there is a lesser sample size of games, but no lack of news

D-Backs Win Again: The Diamondbacks beat the Phillies 6-1 on Monday to complete the series sweep. While the Dodgers have won 10 games in a row, the Diamondbacks have managed to now won 15 of 18 games to keep pace in the NL West.

Chris Sale: As a team, the Red Sox have been relatively inconsistent for all of 2017, but their only guarantee has been strong outings from ace Chris Sale. On Monday he was again excellent going 6 ⅓ innings only surrendering 1 ER to get his 10th win of the season. Despite the lack of run support he has received this season he still appears poised to win a Cy Young this year.

Indians Championship Resilience: After a speedbump this past weekend in which the Indians got swept by their little brother the Minnesota Twins, the Indians reclaimed first again Monday night. Most impressive of all was that they trailed 9-3 entering the fifth and managed to win 15-3. In total they scored 13 unanswered runs to down the inconsistent Rangers.

Cubs Win Tight One: The Cubs won a big game in D.C. on Monday night, staving off a ferocious ninth inning rally by the Nationals. The Cubs continue to wait to string a series of wins together, and a huge 5-4 win against one of the best teams in baseball could just be that spark of momentum they’ve been searching for. While he did eventually get through the 9th, Wade Davis has been shaky lately and he is typically one of their most reliable pieces.

Rockies Falling Off: At this point last week the Rockies were leading the NL West by half a game. Now after 6 straight losses, all to teams within the division, they now find themselves 4.5 games out. Over their 6 game losing streak they are being outscored a wild 57-17.
