First to Home: July 1st MLB News and Notes
July 1, 2017The Josh Turner Effect: The Dodgers have concluded their absolutely dominant month of June. While they have been clicking on all cylinders, one of the biggest reasons for their success has been the return of Justin Turner from the disabled list. Since his return on June 9th, the Dodgers have went 18-3. His 3.54 WAR is 11th best in the bigs. His average has been there all season, but after another homer on friday night, the power appears to be resurfacing as well.
Rockies Losing Streak FINALLY over: The Rockies beat the Diamondbacks 6-3 on Friday in a division battle, to end their 8 game slide. Charlie Blackmon, finally found his power stroke again, cranking a leadoff homer in the first to lead the charge.
Todd Frazier Trade Value Rising: After an impressively slow start to the season, Todd Frazier is returning to his All-Star form in the month of June. On Friday night he clocked 2 solo homers, giving him double the Homeruns in June than he had in April and May combined.
Brewers Staying in the Hunt: After a series of devastating close losses over the past week, the Brewers have responded. On Friday night they held off the Marlins for a 3-2 victory, as they continue to keep pace with the Cubs in the NL Central.
Alex Wood Thriving: Alex Wood had yet another solid start on Friday night, good enough to get him his 9th win of the season. At 9-0 he remains the only unbeaten MLB starter to have started at least 10 games. His ERA is now a ridiculous 1.83.
Jacob deGrom: In a season of few things to cheer about for Mets fans, Jacob deGrom has been one of the few bright spots. On Friday night he bullied the Phillies offense all night to pick up his 8th win of the season. Unfortunately, his brilliance is flying under the radar due to the pathetic Mets season thus far.
Robinson Cano on Fire: Robinson Cano has been crushing the baseball over the last few weeks. On Friday night he drilled two homers and contributed 5 RBI’s against the Angels. Cano is trying to put the team on his back as they make a push for the second wild card position.
