First to Home: August 24th MLB News and Notes

August 24, 2017 Off By tailgatesports

Red Sox Continue to Roll: Behind Drew Pomeranz’s big breaking ball, the Red Sox grabbed a 6-1  win on Wednesday night. They are 15-4 in August and continue to assert themselves against other AL playoff clubs. Eduardo Nunez homered for the second night in a row; he is undoubtedly among the best deadline pickups this season.

Rangers Win Behind Beltre: The Angels vs Rangers four game set continues to impress. With both teams vying for a Wild Card the intensity has been high. Both teams showed up last night in the ESPN showcased game, but Adrian Beltre’s two home runs were enough to lift the Rangers over the halos 7-5. The Rangers have taken two of the first 3 and look for a third win tonight.

Royals Win Again: The Royals beat the Rockies behind a walkoff homer off the bat of Eric Hosmer in the 9th. They have continuously featured their experience in big moments this season and they appear to be capable of snagging the second Wild Card position. However, with their success comes the failures of the Rockies, who along with the Diamondbacks continue to fall further and further away from the safe Wild Card position they held only a month ago.

Mariners: WATCH OUT! Take caution when facing the Mariners right now. Everyone in their lineup is on fire at the perfect time, especially Nelson Cruz, who is making a serious case for MVP. Will their starting pitching continue to be their achilles heel? We shall see.

Brewers Showing Inexperience: The Brewers are not even supposed to be in the position the find themselves in right now. Two games back of the Cubs in the division and 2.5 behind the Rockies for the Wild Card. Yet all that aside you need to take care of business when playing bad teams and they just got swept by the atrocious Giants. I REPEAT not a playoff team.
