Detroit Pistons Eyeing Chauncey Billups For Front Office

Former NBA All-Star Guard Chauncey Billups is getting his looks at a front office position.  Last Summer, before making Koby Altman their GM, the Cleveland Cavaliers were looking to make Chauncey Billups their GM for this NBA season.  It would’ve been an extremely bold move since, he has no front office experience, but apparently more teams than just the Cavaliers think he has a future in the front office.  The Detroit Pistons feel that Billups could fill what they want in the FO.

A report from Marc Stein stated this, Detroit has expressed interest in hiring the former Pistons star Chauncey Billups to work in tandem with Arn Tellem in a totally revamped front office, according to league sources.”  If this is true it would be a pretty big move on behalf of the Pistons organization.  The idea is that Stan Van Gundy would no longer be President of Basketball Ops and would just coach, while Tellem becomes President of Basketball Ops and Billups becomes GM.  This would be great for Billups who has been seeking a front office role and it will also get him a beautiful return to Detroit where he played a majority of his career and won a title.

Since the report was announced both sides have denied speaking about the job and I believe for the sole reason that they don’t want to create any problems with Stan Van Gundy as the season is on it’s way to a close.  They want to finish it out strong and would like to not have any problems. Either way it would be a great idea having Billups in the front office since he can see things more from a player’s stand point and has been actively working around the game as an ESPN analyst.
