The Top 10 QBs in the 2018 NFL Draft
February 7, 2018With the NFL season over, we now shift our attention over to the draft. One of the most important positions that many teams must look at is quarterback as many teams will need a franchise QB, backup QB, or possibly someone that they can mold into a possible starting role in the future. I put together a list of what I think are the top 10 quarterbacks as of right now based on who has the best grades and who can become great QBs in the league.
- Josh Allen
Wyoming
Weight: 222 lbs
Height: 6’5″
Projected Round: 1st Round
Allen possesses a great arm as he by far has the strongest one in the entire draft, but along with that he also has great arm accuracy as he showed in the Senior Bowl. He also has the highest ceiling of any quarterback prospect as he has so much untapped potential that can be molded into a top tier player, it just depends on if he is drafted by the right team. He also stated that it doesn’t matter what team he goes to, he will lead any team to success, which is a plus, as he has the confidence a team wants.
- Josh Rosen
UCLA
Weight: 210 lbs
Height: 6’4″
Projected Round: 1st Round

Rosen is the most NFL ready quarterback as of now as he has elite arm accuracy, which as helped him throughout his college career. He has great arm power as well, and his mechanics are what every team wants in a quarterback. If a team is looking for a great young leader for the whole team, this is the man right here as he is a great young man, who was the leader his whole time at UCLA. He has the ability to be a great quarterback in the NFL.
- Sam Darnold
USC
Weight: 225 lbs
Height: 6’4″
Projected Round: 1st Round
Darnold was projected as the top quarterback prospect to be in NFL Draft before this past year, but even though he was still a top quarterback this year, he struggled with turning the ball over, which is always a turnoff for many teams. Whenever I saw Sam through throw an interception, it was mostly him getting in trouble and just throwing it up for grabs, which could be a great problem, but with the right coaching this habit can be fixed, and this could make him the best quarterback taken from this whole draft. He is also another player that would be a great leader right away.
- Baker Mayfield
Oklahoma
Weight: 214 lbs
Height: 6’1″
Projected Round: 1st Round
One of the most talked about prospects in the whole 2018 draft, for both good and bad reasons. Mayfield has a great arm and good accuracy. His best ability is that he has great pocket awareness as he can tell what’s going on around him and make adjustments to move around. The only issue with Baker is his footwork at some points can be off and will mess with his passes, but with some work with the team that will draft him, Mayfield can become a great starter, even at his height. Analysts have been and continue to make a big deal about Mayfield’s height, but this will not affect him at all as he is still one of the most NFL ready QBs in the draft.
- Luke Falk
Washington State
Weight: 205 lbs
Height: 6’4″
Projected Round: 2nd-4th Round
Falk is a typical starter who is great in all aspects of quarterbacking, and just isn’t amazing in one aspect of the game. Luke is well rounded and has the ability to be a great leader and make the throws that a starting quarterback needs to make in the NFL. The only problem with Falk is interceptions as he somewhat struggled with them this year, but with time I think this won’t be a problem with him.
- Lamar Jackson
Louisville
Weight: 205 lbs
Height: 6’3″
Projected Round: 1st-3rd Round

Jackson has a real arm talent that contributes to him being able to throw very deep, but the issue with Lamar is his accuracy. He struggles with his accuracy because of his throwing mechanics; his footwork is sometimes off and his hips are always tight, which affects his passes. His mechanics need a makeover, which certain teams can help him accomplish this, as he possesses the talent to be a quarterback in the NFL, but it will all depend if he can make these changes.
- Mason Rudolph
Oklahoma State
Weight: 235 lbs
Height: 6’5″
Projected Round: 2nd-4th Round
Rudolph has a big arm and is a great leader for his team. Many believe that the offense they ran in college will possibly effect where he’ll be selected. I think this may have a tiny bit of an impact, but not by a whole lot as I think he has to work on his passing accuracy a little bit, as his offense in college would most of the time have a wide receiver deep, and wide open, but some of the film I watched had him making some nice accurate throws, so as the draft process gets going I could see him sliding up the board.
- Mike White
Western Kentucky
Weight: 225 lbs
Height: 6’4″
Projected Round: 3rd-5th
White showed why he should be considered an eventual starting quarterback in the NFL at the Senior Bowl, as he was able to show off his arm power along with his accuracy. He also showed how he could lead drives and make the right choices. I think team that will need an eventual replacement at quarterback may look towards him as a potential pick.
- Chase Litton
Marshall
Weight: 223 lbs
Height: 6’6″
Projected Round: 4th-6th

Litton doesn’t have the biggest arm, but what he does have is have great arm accuracy which will fit certain offenses as teams that don’t throw deep to often will like him a lot. Chase also did great in college and improved every year, which shows traits of being able to learn easily, which teams will like.
- Kyle Lauletta
Richmond
Weight: 215 lbs
Height: 6’3″
Projected Round: 5th-6th Round
Lauletta was considered a possible undrafted player until the Senior Bowl as he took over with accurate passes in tight holes and showed some arm strength. He also showed the ability to make good decisions, as he sometimes would look to make a big play, but when nothing was there he would throw it to the check down to assure they’d gain something on the play. I think Lauletta may get looks from teams later on in the draft as they will look to take him and possibly mold him.
