Senior Bowl Highlights
January 30, 2018With NFL Draft scouting underway, this week has all been about Senior Bowl, where Seniors, especially from smaller schools, can show off their skills and help their draft stock move up in the scouting reports. Scouts just don’t look at the game, but also the drills throughout the week. Many players have impressed this week and have helped themselves in the draft process, and I’ve broken down who stood out the most.
Mike White – QB – Western Kentucky:
A later round quarterback, I have him ranked as my number eight quarterback. Last Saturday he shined with great pocket presence, great arm accuracy, and went 8/11 with 128 yards and a touchdown. I think he moved his draft stock up from the later rounds to the middle rounds.
Marcus Davenport – DE – UTSA:
He started off slow this week as teams wanted to see more out of him, but the last practice he impressed, and continued today by playing great in the game. He was able to rush the pass well by using different techniques and he even added a touchdown off of a scoop and score. I see him finding his way into the top 10 picks.
Kalen Ballage – RB – Arizona State:
A running back who was once a star lost his starting job. This was his show this week as he impressed in practices and the game showing people why he was once a star who holds the record for most touchdowns in a single game with 8. He possesses strength and can run people over, but he also has speed that helps him. I think that it wouldn’t be surprising if he was taken in the 2nd or 3rd round in the draft.
Josh Allen – QB – Wyoming:
A player that a lot of teams wanted to see, had a good week at practice, but also really shined today. Allen struggled in the first half, but turned it on in the second as he threw 2 touchdowns and showed how he can fit the ball into tight windows. I believe his performance on Saturday will help make an argument of why he should be the first quarterback taken in the draft.

Isaiah Wynn – OG – Georgia:
This guard had one of the best weeks out of any players at the Senior Bowl as he really put all his skills to use this week in practice. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to play in the game after an injury, but I see him moving up into the second round as a team in need of a guard will fall in love with all he offers.
Rashaad Penny – RB – San Diego State:
He led all of college football in rushing yards this year and had over 2,000 rushing yards. His size and speed is just amazing, but most teams were concerned about his hands and if he can catch a ball. He proved that he could at practice this week and in the game as he even caught a 73 yard pass for a touchdown. I think certain teams will fall in love with what he brings to the table and I could see him going in the 3rd or 4th round.

Shaquem Griffin – LB – UCF:
Griffin continues to prove the haters wrong as many doubted he’d be able to play at a high level with some of the top players in the nation, but he proved them wrong. Shaquem only has one hand and is still able to make all the plays as a regular player. This whole week he impressed many teams. He will be drafted and be on an NFL team i guarantee it.
MJ Stewart – CB – North Carolina:
Stewart has stood out this whole week as he showed cover skills and tackling ability. What stood out to me the most was during the game the ball really wasn’t thrown his way much, and when it was he made a couple great plays to break them up. I think he will be a middle round pick to a team that needs a CB2 or CB3.
DJ Chark – WR – LSU:
This guy really wasn’t a star in college as he only had 66 career receptions, but during today’s game, he really showed off potential as a deep threat, showing speed and break away ability along with good hands. Chark definitely turned some heads today and I’m not sure where he’ll be taken as it depends on when a team needs to take a deep threat in the draft, but he shouldn’t fall past the 5th round.

Kyle Lauletta – QB – Richmond:
Lauletta came out and showed how he can make an impact. He threw into some tight windows today and showed how accurate he was. He also made the safe plays and didn’t force anything, which many teams love to see. I think he has great vision and loves football which is great to see. I think he brought himself from an undrafted player to a 5th or 6th round pick.
Brandon Parker – OT – North Carolina A&T:
He had great practices and looked good in the rush attack during the game. I believe that he has great skills and still has some untapped potential as we saw this week. Teams will be looking at this potential as a positive, and I believe he will be a mid round pick.
Nathan Shepard – DT – Fort Hays State:
Shepard is a division 3 player who was invited and came in shining in the practices, as he showed he could compete with some of the best players in the nation. He broke his hand and couldn’t play in the game, but competing at the practices this week showed that he is worthy to play in the NFL as he had both power and speed to help him. I think he will be a later round selection like the 5th or 6th, but I wouldn’t be surprised if teams even took him earlier than that.
