First To Home: July 20th MLB News and Notes
July 20, 2017Nolan Arenado Goes Off: Nolan Arenado became the first player in Rockies History to have 5 hits and 3 Home Runs in a single game. Nolan Arenado continues to go toe to toe with Bryce Harper and Clayton Kershaw for the NL MVP. He now is batting .309 with 21 Homers and an MLB leading 80 RBI’s.
Twins Win Rubber Match: After splitting the first two games of the series against the Yankees, the Twins showed up in a major way on Wednesday behind a 6 run 2nd inning. Jose Berrios has been able to be that second rock the Twins needed in their rotation; he picked up his 9th win of the season yesterday.
D-Backs Woes: The D-Backs have now lost 9 of 11 and have been surpassed by the Rockies for 2nd place in the division after leading them by as much as 5.5 games before. The D-Backs new addition J.D. Martinez left their loss vs. the Reds on Wednesday after getting hit by a pitch in the hand. There is definitely reason for concern in Arizona.
Brewers Sinking: And then it was 1.5. The Brewers now only lead the Cubs by 1.5 games in the NL Central after losing 3-2 in 10 innings to the Pirates on Wednesday. Brewers All-Star closer Corey Knebel could not close the door in the 9th.
Mike Trout is Back: What a pleasure Angels fans have, being able to see the best baseball player of the modern era play every night. How can they not pack the seats every game!? Since his return back from the DL on Friday, he has now hit safely in every game he has played. He has now homered in his last two, refusing to allow the injury to derail his monstrous season.
Dodgers 11 Straight!: The Dodgers are simply absurd at this point. At 66-29, winners of 25 of 28 they have to be eyeing the Mariners 2001 record of 116 wins. I would not put that feat past them at this rate.
