Why the Houston Texans Will Reach Double-Digit Wins This Upcoming 2017-2018 Season and Win the AFC South For a Third Year in a Row
May 27, 2017The Houston Texans have gone three straight seasons with a 9-7 record under Head Coach Bill O’Brien. This season, that’s about to change. The Texans picked up a few key players in the draft, such as Deshaun Watson, Deshaun Watson, and Deshaun Watson. This year, the Texans will go 11-5.
- Houston’s big splash in the 2017 NFL draft was exactly what the Texan’s organization needed moving forward. Quarterback play has been less than stellar since the inception of the Texans in 2002, with the likes of Brock Osweiler, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Sage Rosenfels, Case Keenum, Brian Hoyer, T.J. Yates, Ryan Mallett, Tony Banks, Dave Ragone, Tom Savage, Matt Leinhart, and Brandon Weeden all seeing time as starters. With a list of starting QB’s like this, it’s easy to see why Texans fans were pumped when the Texans moved up in the 1st round to select (National Champion QB) Deshaun Watson out of Clemson. Watson will likely sit behind started Tom Savage during the first half of the season, although I wouldn’t completely rule out a guy like Deshaun to take over on day one. Because of the bold move to snag Deshaun Watson with the 12th pick in the draft, the Texans will have a good problem of having one too many solid QB’s in their locker room come the end of this season.
Upcoming Season Prediction: Deshaun Watson earns starting job in Week 4
- The Texan’s offense struggled last season, mostly due to Quarterback inconsistency, but also because of very questionable play-calling. George Godsey, the former Offensive Coordinator was fired at the end of last season and Head Coach Bill O’Brien told the press that he would be taking over the play-calling duties in the upcoming season. During rookie minicamp this past Saturday, Bill O’Brien said, “I’ve been probably doing more coaching myself in the last four or five weeks than I’ve done in the three years that I’ve been here. I’m really involved in the offense and I’m having a lot of fun.” I’m a believer in QB guru Billy O’Brien, and I expect significant improvement from the offense this coming season.
Upcoming Season Prediction: 14th overall Offense in the NFL
- It’s simple, if the Texans Defense can stay healthy, this unit has a chance to be truly great, similar to the ’85 Bears type great. With the return of JJ Watt to the front-seven lineup, which already includes the likes of Jadeveon Clowney, Whitney Mercilus, Brian Cushing, and Benardrick McKinney, this group will be scary. Andrew Luck, Marcus Mariota, and Blake Bortles won’t be looking forward to playing against this unit. Expect a lot of sacks and QB hits this season. Also, through some slick restructuring, the Texans were able to keep both Romeo Crennel and Mike Vrabel on the Texans staff. Romeo Crennel was promoted to Assistant Head Coach and Mike Vrabel slid into the Defensive Coordinator spot, which is lucky for the Texans, because both of these guys are great defensive minds in the league. Between the coaches and the playmakers, this defense will really fun to watch.
Upcoming Season Prediction: 1st overall Defense in the NFL
The city of Houston was let down by the Rocket’s (James Harden’s) atrocious play 3 weeks ago, but Houston Texans fans are in for an electrifying season which all starts with one name, Deshaun Watson. If all goes to plan, which nothing ever does, this Texans team has a good chance to win it all.
